Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer

Mowell Funeral Home and Cremation Service is hiring for a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer.

Mowell Funeral Home and Cremation Service is a family owned and operated company, serving the families of Fayette County and the surrounding areas. The Funeral Director is instrumental in facilitating and ensuring the success of our relationships with our families. By overseeing the planning, organization, and management of all aspects of the ceremony and final disposition, our families are better able to gather, reflect, and celebrate the lives of their loved ones.

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, able to work alone and within a team, has good communication skills, and has a professional appearance and demeanor, and lives close to the Fayetteville, GA area. (possible living quarters)

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and an Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Science of Funeral Service. He or she should hold current FD/EMB licenses in the State of Georgia. It is also an advantage for Funeral Directors to have experience working in funeral profession and is well versed in the protocols and procedures of the industry.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

  • Removal of the decedent as calls are received and dispatched, in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Completes paperwork and tasks such as ordering casket, flowers, urns, etc. and other necessities for funeral and memorial ceremony.
  • Oversees preparation and embalming of the deceased prior to the funeral.
  • Oversees and handles the cremation of the decedent.
  • Coordinates with the military when the decedent is a veteran to confirm what honors/benefits the family is eligible for.
  • Follow proper guidelines and procedures when working in the cremation care center.
  • Maintains safety / OSHA standards in preparation and embalming rooms, as well as in the cremation care center.
  • Frequently moves decedents weighing over 50 pounds to various locations at the funeral home, churches, and cemeteries which requires pushing and pulling caskets (with or without a body), lifting to a height of 3-4’.
  • Must be able to make night calls and removals, operate company vehicle at night.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs to make removals.
  • Constantly positions self to retrieve, transport, dress and move deceased, flowers, and personal family belongings
  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to move about to transfer the decedent from the prep room, to the crematory, or to various locations of the funeral home for visitation or service, as well as to the cemetery.

  • Exhibits patience, empathy, and compassion.
  • Communicates calmly and kindly with bereaved family and friends as well as other staff members.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with computers and programs.
  • Is familiar with proper etiquette and procedure for a range of religious or cultural funeral services.

Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer

Posey Funeral Directors is seeking a licensed funeral director and embalmer who seeks to provide the highest level of care to the families we serve while exhibiting both compassion and skill planning, directing and following up on all aspects of the services provided by our firm.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hold or be able to obtain a South Carolina and Georgia Funeral Director and Embalmer License in a reasonable amount of time as mutual agreed upon prior to hire date.

  • Advise and assist families in funeral planning and direct and carry out all funeral plans in accordance with the standards set forth in our Posey Policy and Procedure Guidebook.
  • Embalm, dress and position decedent in accordance with the Posey Standard as outlined in our Posey Policy and Procedure Guidebook.
  • Always treat and care for descendent in a respectful and professional way.
  • Comply with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and with all Posey company policies and procedures.
  • Discuss and explain all services and selections questions in accordance with the FTC Funeral Rule and be comfortable in explaining the value of what we do to the consumer.
  • Wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required to perform specific duties.
  • Dress and maintain personal appearance with the standards set forth by our Posey Policy and Procedure Guidebook.
Education, Licensure and General Skill Requirements:

  • A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized education program at a trade school combined with apprenticeship in this field.
  • Minimum of one-year of related work experience
  • Valid Driver’s License and transportation to and from work
  • Possess the proper accreditation to meet licensing requirements in South Carolina and Georgia for funeral directing and embalming
Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to tolerate exposure to hazardous substances subject to government requirements; occasional lifting, pushing and pulling, with assistance, of objects up to approximately 600 pounds
  • Manual dexterity required for clerical tasks
  • Occasional stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and carrying objects weighing up to approximately 30 pounds for short distances
