Nell Copeland, 83, of Brunswick, GA and formerly of Alma, GA, passed away on October 18, 2016 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. She was born and raised in Alma, where she lived until moving to Brunswick in 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Payne Copeland, her brother, J.C. Crosby and two brother-in-laws, John DeLoach and Billy Meeks.

Survivors include a daughter, Rene’ Shelnutt of St. Simons Island, GA (Rick), a son, Brad Copeland of Alma, GA (Sherryl), grandchildren Rachel Shelnutt Barksdale (Andrew) of Richmond, VA, Natalie Shelnutt of St. Simons Island, Dow Shelnutt of St. Simons Island, Jeni Elliott (James) of Kingsland, GA, and one great-grandchild, Logan Elliott of Kingsland, GA.; also three brothers, McCoy Crosby (Nadine), Roy Crosby (Linda) and Michael Crosby (Patsy Harrell) all of Alma and two sisters, Jean Meeks of Jacksonville, FL. and Joyce DeLoach of Alma. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Crosby Funeral Home in Alma, GA. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be; Steve Crosby, Bill and Merritt Meeks, Brandon Johnson, Andrew Newberry and James Elliott. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alma First United Methodist Church where Nell was a member, or to Frederica Baptist Church on St. Simons where she attended after her move to Brunswick.
