Mr. William Warren “Bill” Haisten, Jr. died February 12, 2018.
Born May 13, 1947 in Griffin, Georgia he was the son of the late William Warren Haisten, Sr. and Dorothy Rhodes Haisten. A lifelong resident of Griffin, he completed Griffin High School in 1968. Active in the community, Bill was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and attended meetings of the Griffin Exchange Club, Rotary Club, and Kiwanis Club.
Bill’s father instilled in him a love of sports at an early age and they never missed a Griffin High football, basketball, or baseball game. Throughout his life he remained a loyal fan and has been recognized for his dedication. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for his support of Griffin sports and each year the Bill Haisten Trophy is presented to the winner of the annual Griffin-Spalding football game. On April 15, 2016 the Griffin-Spalding Board of Education unanimously approved the naming of Memorial Stadium’s football field “The Bill Haisten Field at Memorial Stadium.”
Bill is survived by a sister Dorothy Haisten Spencer and brother-in-law David George Spencer, Sr. Also surviving are a niece Emily Spencer Speas and her husband William Kelly Speas, a nephew David George Spencer, Jr. and his wife Nicole; great nieces Emma Elizabeth Spencer and Mary Dean Speas and a great nephew Andrew George Spencer.
Funeral services will be Saturday February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Griffin. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 3 – 6 p.m. at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home in Griffin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stepping Stones Educational Therapy Center, Inc., 141 Futral Road, Griffin, Georgia 30224 or the First United Methodist Church of Griffin.
The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of Brightmoor Nursing Center, where Bill last resided, for their loving and dedicated care and to Bill’s many friends for their kindness throughout his life.
