Terry Lee Baxter, age 59 of Commerce, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017. He was a member of Commerce Baptist Church. Terry was a mason and a member of Gainesville Masonic Lodge, where he was Past Master; he was also a member of The Order of The Eastern Star, where he was also Past Master. Terry received his Associates Degree in Mortuary Science from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service and spent a lifetime serving others in the funeral industry. He retired from Smith Funeral Home and spent a good part of his life working for Ivie Funeral Home. Terry was an avid fisherman and fished in many tournaments and rodeos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Pauline Sailors Baxter; his brother, Jerry Baxter and a son, Edward Baxter. Terry is survived by his wife Ann Brackett Baxter of Commerce; a daughter, Angela Owens (Chuck) of Maysville; a sister, Shirley Ann Hollifield of Commerce; three grandchildren, Serenity and Sydney Cowart and Brad Owens and one great-grandchild, Charley Owens. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, GA. Funeral services will be at 3:00PM Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Grey Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made to The Masonic Children's Home.
